About This Site

It sounds cliche to say you are your own worst client or critique but this site finally proved it to me. Since all of my previous sites were Addy winning, Flash based projects, when I sat down to sketch out my first ideas, I had some big expectations. And, I was on my own… no team. Yikes.

I went through quite a few versions… nearly twenty. From multi-column fluid designs to a crazy horizontal design that actually got produced, I was a bit overwhelmed. A lot of the issues you see with clients, you end up seeing in yourself during the process. Wanting to be everything to everyone is a perfect example. Going through the process definitely helps with client empathy and the need to enforce a focused strategy.

From my own goals, needs and wants to my architecture and even a creative brief, I finally had a version I could bare to look at day after day. But, I had also designed some features that I was unable to handle the development of myself. After some research, I was able to find the Wordpress theme by Brandon Jones at Epicera Studios that was ridiculously close to my own wireframes. I was able to drop my own Flash based carousel for his jQuery version. After some pretty heavy modifications and re-skinning, here we go.

Quick Thanks

First, thanks to back-end developer, Anna Mgerian, who was patient enough to help me out with my temporary and experimental site with its portfolio database and horizontal layout. I do plan on bringing it back in an experimental section along with a blog post about the Analytics results. She also creates some beautiful jewelry available on Etsy.

And, a very special thanks to my now-wife for her unlimited patience. Did I mention that this is the fourth functioning version of this site? That means for a couple of months, she’s had to endure this frustrating process, yep, four times.
